The Gomateshwara monument is a monolithic statue that stands 17 meters tall. It was created in the 10th century by Chamundaraya, commander of King Rajamalla. The sculpture has Tamil and Kannada inscriptions at its base. The statue is carved out of a single block of granite and is said to be the world’s tallest monolithic statue.

Chandragiri Hill Temple

The most prominent Jain shrine in Sravanabelagola is located atop the Chandragiri Hills with magnificent granite stones. You can enjoy beautiful views from here. The temple was erected by Chamundaraya. The Ananthnath Swami Temple located in proximity is said to be over 1500 years old.

Vindhyagiri Hills

The red-colored Vindyagiri is one of two hills in Shravanabelagola and the mountain was initially referred to as “Per Kavappu”. The hill is home to numerous temples and shrines including the Chandragiri temple which has a unique sandalwood statue of Bahubali.

Jain Math

The Monastery of Charukeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji is a three-story edifice dedicated to Lord Chandranatha. The stunning wall paintings and sculptures made from brass, copper, or bronze are worth seeing for their intricacy alone.

The Bhandari Basadi Temple in Shravanabelagola is considered to be one of the biggest and most impressive temples. It is a magnificent temple built in 1126 AD by Hulla, the treasurer of Hoysala monarchs. The size makes it one-of-a-kind and famous among tourists who come here looking for some insight into ancient Indian history. 

The striking carvings and sculptures here stand out among the other structures created in plain architectural styles. Every year from March to April, the temple hosts a car festival. Akkana Basadi is another religious site worth visiting for history buffs. Constructed during the Hoysala era around 1121 AD by Achiakka, it is an architectural masterpiece.
